Marseille, as European Capital of Sport 2017, organized an event framed within the European TELETURF

At the beginning of last December, the city of Marseille, as European Capital of Sport 2017, organized an event framed within the European TELETURF project, bringing together representatives of numerous European public and private entities that have a relationship with sports in general and with artificial turf, maintenance and training in particular.

The profile of these entities and organizations was quite heterogeneous and complementary, being present public and private managers, manufacturers, maintenance companies, specialized laboratories and training entities.

The meeting served to explain the TELETURF project and the work done till the date, with the aim of obtaining external validation through the opinions of those attending this important technical forum.

During the event, the main objectives of the project were explained, which consist in improving the safety and quality conditions in the artificial turf sports fields throughout Europe through the improvement in their maintenance. This is pretended to be achieved by improving the training of professionals in the maintenance sector through an on-line course.

On the other hand it was also exposed all the work done till the date, which has been carried out an extensive work of analysis of training needs and preferences of professionals in the sector, with more than one hundred surveys, personal interviews and interdisciplanares working groups, having got add to the project the opinion of professionals from 12 European countries. With all the information gathered, a content structure of the on-line course was generated that was also exposed in the event to be validated externally. In the same way, different subjects were exposed and discussed among all the attendees related to the maintenance of artificial turf fields. Among all, we can highlight the control and periodic evaluation of their properties, the influence of their design, how they affect the differences geographic and climatic, or the affection of the use and utilization in the sports surface. Particular problems were also brought together and possible solutions were discussed.

This working group, which met periodically to monitor the project, had a first session in Valencia on April 1 and 2, 2017 at kick-off meeting and the next event will be held in Brussels at the European Parliament in September 2018 where the preliminary results of the project will be presented.

Finally, participants of the event made a field visit to a sports facility in order to observe different maintenance tasks by specialized machinery and comment it on-site.

All the information and knowledge generated had great quality and it is currently being analyzed to be taken into account by TELETURF technical team for continuing advancing in the generation of the project content.
